Italian Arum

Arum italicum

Plant Details:

Plant Type: Perennial
Plant Family: Araceae
Plant Description: Shade-loving perennial with large arrow-shaped, dark green leaves with creamy yellow midribs. The green color will lighten up as the season wears on. Produces an upright cluster of small, creamy-white flowers that are partially covered by green bracts. After flowering the leaves die back leaving only the flowering stem which produces bright red berries in the summer. All parts of this plant are poisonous to humans and animals. Known to be invasive in many areas of the U.S.

Maintenance:

Maintenance Type: Perennial - Herbaceous
Plant Care: Perennial - Herbaceous (soft-stemmed plants that die back in winter and regrow in spring): Remove spent blooms to promote rebloom later. Some plants tend to flop over after the first bloom and attempt to regrow from the base; in these cases, the old stems can be cut away in summer. As plants become dormant in the fall, remove dead leaves and stems.
