The area surrounding the Education Center has been designed to meet
the highest environmental standards and to follow the landscaping ordinance created
by Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District. This landscape is filled with plants
that please the eye and are adapted to Utah’s climate.
All of the water that falls onto the building and parking lots is collected for
use or directed to biofilters and bioswales, which clean the water before it enters back into the
natural waterways. You can see one of the rain collection systems at work at the southwest
corner of the building in our rainwater harvesting exhibit. We also have plans
to use collected precipitation to operate a seasonal fountain
in the main plaza. The fountain will work on the same principle as our mountain water:
when there’s precipitation, the fountain will flow; when there isn’t, it will be
dry.
