Neighborhood Landscapes

These exhibits are listed in the order found in the Garden.

The beginning point of the Neighborhood, though not one of the themed yards. Come here for the start of scheduled tours or just to sit and enjoy the view.

This typical Utah suburban yard has the look most of us have come to love, but it’s easy to overwater. The good news is that you can keep the lush look with only half the water most Utah households use.

This modified traditional landscape follows recommendations found throughout the Garden – planning wisely, installing drip emitters and maintaining with care. Then we added another thrifty twist; we replaced water-loving traditional plants with less-thirsty types.

You can still enjoy vivid seasonal color while cutting your water use 65-70 percent. This area shows you how to achieve a colorful landscape without the waste.

Well-placed fruit trees, grape vines and raised herb beds like those in the harvest landscape can dress up both your outdoor spaces and your dining table. It’s a great way to combine beauty and practicality, while saving water.

Imagine walking out your door into a lovely forest scene! This woodland exhibit uses only 10-15 percent of the water required to maintain a typical Utah landscape. The secret is shade. Trees and sizeable shrubs filter the sun creating cool microclimates.

For ultimate water savings and ease of maintenance, look to Utah’s high-altitude deserts for inspiration. We combined native plants with other extremely drought-tolerant species to create this striking effect.
