Plant Description: A remarkably tough and adaptable deciduous shade tree with a broad oval shape. Tolerates an incredibly wide range of soil and environmental conditions, including strong winds, pollution, flooding, and drought, making it a great tree for park strips and other difficult sites. The distinctive bark is ridged and sometimes corky, and the small, sweet fruits are favored by wildlife. The large, asymmetrical, spearhead-shaped leaves are rough textured and turn yellow in fall. Although generally disease resistant, it is susceptible to galls which disfigure the leaves but cause no harm. Native to the eastern and central US.
