Siberian Bugloss

Brunnera macrophylla

Plant Details:

Plant Type: Perennial
Plant Family: Boraginaceae
Plant Description: This clump-forming perennial spreads by self-seeding and rhizomes, eventually forming a mat of green, heart-shaped foliage. Clusters of flowers that resemble those of the forget-me-not appear in early-spring. The common name, "bugloss," is derived from the Greek word for ox-tongue and is in reference to the rough texture of the leaves. This bugloss prefers to grow in shade and is intolerant of drought.

Maintenance:

Maintenance Type: Perennial - Herbaceous
Plant Care: Perennial - Herbaceous (soft-stemmed plants that die back in winter and regrow in spring): Remove spent blooms to promote rebloom later. Some plants tend to flop over after the first bloom and attempt to regrow from the base; in these cases, the old stems can be cut away in summer. As plants become dormant in the fall, remove dead leaves and stems.
