Fruit trees dress up both your landscaping and your dining table. |
Grapes grown on trellises add taste as well as texture to your garden.
Inline drip emitters optimize watering efficiency.
Here’s a great way to combine beauty and practicality, while saving water, energy
and grocery dollars. Include a few edibles among your planting choices! Well-placed
fruit trees, grape vines and raised herb beds like those you see in this harvest
landscape can dress up both your outdoor spaces and your dining table. Look how
we’ve even complemented our tall fescue turf with creeping thyme to produce good-looking
and waterwise lawn areas.
You’ll find lots more tips for adding edible plants to your waterwise landscaping
along the Design Path. For example, try planting flowers along with fruits and vegetables
to create a mixed bouquet for the eye as well as the palate. (Some flowers are edible,
too!)
Keep in mind that maintenance—pruning, fertilizing and controlling pests—is also
important in a harvest landscape to ensure a quality crop. As suggested along the
Irrigation Path, a combination of spray heads for the lawn and drip emitters everywhere
else keeps this edible landscape healthy and handsome with minimal irrigation.
