  • Valentine Bleeding Heart Dicentra spectabilis 'Valentine'

    An elegant and attractive perennial that features red heart shaped blossoms that are a well-received change to the classic pink colored bleeding hearts. These blossoms cover silvery plum-colored stems and dangle over the dark green foliage below that is, at times, tinged with purple.

  • Vanderwolf's Pyramid Limber Pine Pinus flexilis 'Vanderwolf's Pyramid'

    This dignified cultivar of the native Limber Pine has a conical shape, long blue-green needles and smooth gray bark that fissures with age. A majestic medium-sized specimen or accent tree. Stems and branches are flexible, hence the botanical name. Tolerant of drought and varying soil conditions but prefers well-drained soils.

    Arching deciduous shrub. Produces profuse clusters of pure-white, bowl-shaped clusters in early summer. Green, 3-5 lobed leaves are coarsely toothed. Plant in well-drained soils. Prefers moderate amounts of water. Do not overwater.

Not particularly drought tolerant but used in our garden in the rain gardening section where, due to drainage, the soil is consistently moist. Leaves may look bleached in full sun situations.

    Large, vigorous shrub with dark red branches and twigs. Green oval leaves have irregular white edges. White flowers bloom in late-spring to early-summer followed by white berries. Branches turn orange-red in the fall. Grow in full sun for the best stem and leaf color. The species is widespread and native to Utah.

    Solomon’s seal has green leaves edged with creamy-white emerging from gracefully arching stems. Dangling bell-shaped flowers are white with a lily-like fragrance. Plant size gently increases by thin rhizomes to form colonies in the best growing conditions which occur in moist, organically rich, dappled shade. Excellent in woodland gardens or to stabilize shaded hills. Leaves turn golden yellow in the fall which fades to a cream color similar to dried corn husks. Looks beautiful against dark mulch.

    This is one of the most drought tolerant, and tough vines available. This trumpet vine offers leaves boldly splashed and streaked with heavy creamy-white variegation. It is even more attractive when the summer brings the red-orange flower display. Climbs via hold fasts.

    This is an upright, deciduous shrub that can have a vase-shaped habit. It is mostly grown for its golden yellow foliage. The foliage is more yellow when it is planted in full sun, but it will grow in some shade with greener leaves. It has white, fragrant, tubular-shaped flowers on spikes up to 4 inches long. It can also get small, dark, berry-like fruit. Well-drained soil is preferred.

    Tall, vase-shaped deciduous tree somewhat resembling an elm. Green simple leaves have serrated edges and turn a bronze-red in the fall. Branching can be a problem if they are growing to closely to the central leader. Problems with branching can be solved by care during purchasing and early pruning. Tolerant of urban conditions and drought. Due to its form and roots it makes an excellent street tree.
