Variegated Japanese Sedge

Carex morrowii 'Variegata'

Plant Details:

Plant Type: Perennial
Plant Family: Cyperaceae
Plant Description: Clump-forming, semi-evergreen perennial similar in appearance to a grass. Long, slender leaves have green margins with a creamy-white variegation down the middle. Prefers full to part-shade and moist, well-drained soils. Not particularly drought tolerant but used in our garden in the rain gardening section where, due to drainage, the soil is consistently moist. Leaves may look bleached in full sun situations.

Maintenance:

Maintenance Type: Perennial - Herbaceous
Plant Care: Perennial - Herbaceous (soft-stemmed plants that die back in winter and regrow in spring): Remove spent blooms to promote rebloom later. Some plants tend to flop over after the first bloom and attempt to regrow from the base; in these cases, the old stems can be cut away in summer. As plants become dormant in the fall, remove dead leaves and stems.
