Plant Details:
Plant Type: Perennial
Plant Family: Rosaceae
Plant Description: This waterwise perennial is not only loved for its reddish-purple bowing flowers, but for the seed heads which follow after the flower fades. The seed heads are upright, feathery tails that move with the wind and attract eyes. The fern-like green foliage is also attractive, and although the leaves aren't truly evergreen they may turn beautiful shades of crimson in the winter. This plant spreads by rhizomes and can be left to naturalize into a unique groundcover.
Maintenance:
Maintenance Type: Perennial - Herbaceous
Plant Care: Perennial - Herbaceous (soft-stemmed plants that die back in winter and regrow in spring): Remove spent blooms to promote rebloom later. Some plants tend to flop over after the first bloom and attempt to regrow from the base; in these cases, the old stems can be cut away in summer. As plants become dormant in the fall, remove dead leaves and stems.
