Takara Itoh Peony

Paeonia 'Smith Opus 2'

Plant Details:

Plant Type: Perennial
Plant Family: Paeoniaceae
Plant Description: Clump-forming herbaceous perennial. Abundant mid-green deeply-lobed foliage grows on stiff upright stems. Large fragrant double pink flowers are loose and airy. Petals flare and have darker pink edges with contrasting yellow stamens in the centers. Plant in fertile well-drained soils. Tolerates some drought once established. Itoh peonies, or intersectional peonies, are hybrids of the tree peony (P. lemoinei) and garden peony (P. lactiflora).

Maintenance:

Maintenance Type: Perennial - Herbaceous
Plant Care: Perennial - Herbaceous (soft-stemmed plants that die back in winter and regrow in spring): Remove spent blooms to promote rebloom later. Some plants tend to flop over after the first bloom and attempt to regrow from the base; in these cases, the old stems can be cut away in summer. As plants become dormant in the fall, remove dead leaves and stems.
