Hello Yellow Butterflyweed

Asclepias tuberosa 'Hello Yellow'

Plant Details:

Plant Type: Perennial
Plant Family: Apocynaceae
Plant Description: This cultivar of butterflyweed, a native relative of milkweed, has attractive flat-topped clusters of bright golden yellow blossoms last throughout the summer. The blooms sit on clumps of upright stems that are covered in narrow tipped leaves. After the blooming period, spindle-shaped seed pods emerge. Butterfly weed is a prominent source of nectar for butterflies, and the foliage is a food source for the larvae of monarch butterflies.

Maintenance:

Maintenance Type: Perennial - Herbaceous
Plant Care: Perennial - Herbaceous (soft-stemmed plants that die back in winter and regrow in spring): Remove spent blooms to promote rebloom later. Some plants tend to flop over after the first bloom and attempt to regrow from the base; in these cases, the old stems can be cut away in summer. As plants become dormant in the fall, remove dead leaves and stems.
