Goblin Blanket Flower

Gaillardia x grandiflora 'Kobold'

Plant Details:

Plant Type: Perennial
Plant Family: Asteraceae
Plant Description: A very good choice for the Utah climate where it is known for its heat and drought tolerance. The flowers are daisy-like, the hybrid, 'Goblin,' has bright red petals tipped in yellow. Blanket flowers cut well and are long lasting. They bloom from mid summer to frost and require very little care. The pom-pom-like seed heads are fine to leave on the plant, although deadheading will encourage more blooms. Under ideal conditions this plant can spread. This one is also deer resistant.

Maintenance:

Maintenance Type: Perennial - Herbaceous
Plant Care: Perennial - Herbaceous (soft-stemmed plants that die back in winter and regrow in spring): Remove spent blooms to promote rebloom later. Some plants tend to flop over after the first bloom and attempt to regrow from the base; in these cases, the old stems can be cut away in summer. As plants become dormant in the fall, remove dead leaves and stems.
