Winecraft Gold Smoketree

Cotinus coggygria 'MINCOJAU3'

Plant Details:

Plant Type: Shrub
Plant Family: Anacardiaceae
Plant Description: A boldly bright deciduous shrub or small multi-stemmed tree which will instantly add interest and beauty to a landscape. Its natural shape is a dense oval with round foliage that begins a sunny orange, takes on a touch of gold and finally matures to a beautiful chartreuse for the remainder of the season. On top of the attractive foliage, clouds of green flower clusters come on in early summer. They eventually turn into the classic pink “smoke” plumes that are associated with this plant.

Maintenance:

Maintenance Type: Shrub - Renewal
Plant Care: Shrub - Renewal (woody multi-stemmed plants that lose their leaves every winter and look best on younger stems, which emerge from the base of the plant): Prune regularly to promote health, provide air circulation, maintain a desirable shape, and to remove dead or damaged branches. Pruning is best done in late winter to early spring for most shrubs. With spring blooming shrubs, prune after the blooms are spent. When pruning, remove 1/3rd of the oldest branches by cutting at the base of the shrub. Monitor for pests, diseases or other ailments on a regular basis.
Special Considerations: This plant can be cut nearly to the ground every few years to encourage a fresh burst of foliage.
