Lemon Meringue False Indigo

Baptisia 'Lemon Meringue'

Plant Details:

Plant Type: Perennial
Plant Family: Fabaceae
Plant Description: A false indigo that provides unique and beautiful color in the landscape. Tall, upward growing spikes full of lemon-yellow blossoms contrast beautifully against dusty purple stems—both the stems and blossoms are highly showy and make good cut flowers. These flowers spikes come in late spring and rise above from blue green foliage. As the blossoms fade, beautiful black seed pods add interest throughout the remainder of the season and into fall.

Maintenance:

Maintenance Type: Perennial - Herbaceous
Plant Care: Perennial - Herbaceous (soft-stemmed plants that die back in winter and regrow in spring): Remove spent blooms to promote rebloom later. Some plants tend to flop over after the first bloom and attempt to regrow from the base; in these cases, the old stems can be cut away in summer. As plants become dormant in the fall, remove dead leaves and stems.
