Zig Zag Goldenrod

Solidago flexicaulis

Plant Details:

Plant Type: Perennial
Plant Family: Asteraceae
Plant Description: Goldenrods are some of the most beneficial American wildflowers, providing late-season nectar and pollen to support biodiversity. Sadly, they have not gained the popularity they deserve because they are often confused with Ragweeds, which cause hay fever. This species of goldenrod is native to the Eastern half of the US and thrives in sun or shade. Leaves grow along the main stalk in a zig-zag pattern, topped with elongated clusters of small golden star-like flowers that appear in late summer and fall.

Maintenance:

Maintenance Type: Perennial - Herbaceous
Plant Care: Perennial - Herbaceous (soft-stemmed plants that die back in winter and regrow in spring): Remove spent blooms to promote rebloom later. Some plants tend to flop over after the first bloom and attempt to regrow from the base; in these cases, the old stems can be cut away in summer. As plants become dormant in the fall, remove dead leaves and stems.
