Broom Snakeweed

Gutierrezia sarothrae

Plant Details:

Plant Type: Shrub
Plant Family: Asteraceae
Plant Description: This small, mounding shrub is native throughout the Intermountain West. Mid-green linear leaves grow on twiggy branches. Produces clusters of golden yellow flowers in late summer. Unpalatable to wildlife. Plant in well-drained soils in full sun. Do not overwater or over-fertilize as it will cause the plant to grow overly vigorously and lose its form. May be hard to find in nurseries.

Maintenance:

Maintenance Type: Shrub - Hard Pruning
Plant Care: Shrub - Hard Pruning (woody multi-stemmed plants that lose their leaves every winter and look best on one year of new growth): Cut down all branches to the base of the plant every year in the late winter or early spring, leaving a few inches with buds to regrow. Monitor for pests, diseases, or other ailments on a regular basis.
